Will your chisels actually stick?

Test the exposed steel with a magnet before choosing magnetic storage. Wooden and plastic handles do not provide magnetic contact. A ferrule may attract a magnet, but its curved surface is not necessarily a stable place to support the whole tool. Do not infer reliable retention from a brief touch.

Paint, corrosion, dust and uneven surfaces can reduce or alter contact. A bevel is also a poor substitute for a broad, predictable resting surface. Keep the cutting edge away from the magnet and mounting hardware so that retrieving a chisel does not drag its edge across metal.
