Best Pegboard Power Tool Holders: Drill Rack vs U-Hooks
Compare Wall Control drill racks and U-hooks, with battery clearance, pegboard compatibility, tool geometry and practical mounting checks.

For Wall Control panels, the ASM-DR-314 drill rack is the better starting point for several compact drills and drivers; the 10-UH-404 U-hooks are the option to compare for one awkwardly shaped tool that needs its own position. These are accessories for a specific slotted panel system. They are not universal upgrades for ordinary hardboard pegboard.

ASM-DR-314: a compact station for drills and drivers
Wall Control describes three tool positions with three battery-storage slots on top. The front openings are three by three-and-a-half inches, with a narrower one-and-three-quarter-inch bottom opening. The rack uses fourteen-gauge steel and attaches through the panel's slots. The manufacturer excludes its three-inch-tall pegboard strips from this rack's supported applications.
The useful feature is a defined place for each drill. It is easier to notice that one tool is missing than when several tools share a broad shelf. It can also free a drawer for accessories that benefit more from enclosed storage.
The limitation is geometry. A battery platform name does not determine the shape of every tool in that platform. A compact impact driver, a long drill, and a rotary hammer are different storage problems. A large battery or belt clip can interfere even when the bare tool appears to fit. The manufacturer discusses both battery-up and battery-down orientations, but the exact assembled tool remains the thing to measure.
10-UH-404: more freedom, less organization built in
The U-shaped accessory provides a four-inch reach and a different support shape from the rack. It is useful to compare when one large tool would consume several positions on a multi-tool holder. Separate hooks also let you put a frequently used tool lower than the rest of the collection.
The compromise is that a hook does not provide the same surrounding structure as a dedicated dock. The tool needs an appropriate support point and a stable resting orientation. Check where its center of mass sits relative to the hook and panel, and whether lifting it out catches another tool or the hook itself.
Do not select this accessory just because a seller uses a large load number. The panel installation, support geometry and distance from the wall matter. Wall Control's own guidance explains that idealized capacity claims can be misleading. Treat the complete wall installation as part of the storage system.
A five-minute fit check
Measure the tool in the condition in which you will store it. Include the battery, belt clip, auxiliary handle and any attachment normally left on it. Note the widest section that must pass through the holder and the narrow section that will actually rest on it.
Next, draw the tool's outline on cardboard and hold it at the intended position on the panel. Check the space needed above it to lift the tool out. A holder mounted directly under a shelf may look efficient while making retrieval awkward.
Leave clearance below for the longest tool and beside it for your hand. Plan where a drill bit, blade or other attachment will sit; follow the tool manufacturer's storage instructions and keep exposed sharp parts away from reaching hands. The safest-looking product photograph is not a substitute for checking your actual arrangement.
What if I have ordinary pegboard?
Do not order a Wall Control slotted accessory on the assumption that the holes will make it fit. Wall Control panels accept some conventional accessories, but that does not imply that their proprietary accessories work on a conventional board.
For a traditional board, identify hole diameter, spacing, thickness, and the condition of the board before shopping. A locking accessory can help retention, but it cannot repair weak or damaged panel material. Triton's DuraHook compatibility guidance distinguishes supported conventional boards and DuraBoard from steel pegboard; use the exact holder's instructions rather than generalizing across that brand's entire range.
If you are replacing the whole wall, compare the cost of panels, holders, mounting components and extra shelves. Our pegboard accessories guide covers the broader storage choices. A holder is inexpensive only if it works with the system you intend to keep.
Battery storage is not automatically a charging station
Battery slots keep packs assigned to a location. They do not supply a charger, power strip, wiring, or ventilation plan. If you add chargers to a nearby shelf, follow the charger and battery manufacturer's instructions for temperature, clearance and installation.
Keep charging cords out of the tool retrieval path. A drill that snags a charger lead every time you remove it is a sign that the layout needs changing. Separate frequently handled tools from the electrical equipment rather than forcing everything into the smallest possible patch of wall.
Useful checks after delivery
Confirm the model, color and included quantity, then assemble the holder according to its instructions. Check the panel and wall attachment before loading tools. Place one tool at a time, keeping control of it until you know how it rests and how it comes out.
Look for interference from clips and batteries, a holder lifting with the tool, or a tool that tips when its neighbor is removed. Solve the fit problem rather than relying on a stronger pull or an improvised attachment. For tools that do not have a stable position, use a suitable shelf or enclosed storage instead.
Questions buyers ask
Does the rack include the pegboard?
The standalone ASM-DR-314 listing is a holder assembly. Complete wall kits are separate products. Read the exact package contents before ordering from a photograph showing a finished wall.
Can I store three tools with large batteries attached?
Only if the individual shapes fit with retrieval clearance. Three positions do not guarantee three bulky battery packs side by side. Measure the tools together, not individually.
Can the U-hooks hold every power tool?
No universal claim is justified. The tool needs a compatible support point and stable orientation, and the installed system must suit its load. Consider a shelf when there is no sensible hanging position.
Which would you buy for two compact drills and an impact driver?
We would first check the ASM-DR-314 ↗ against those exact tools. For a separate awkward tool, compare the U-hooks ↗ rather than buying another three-position rack by default.
